 Kupe project to supply gas for 20 years: Prime Minister John Key officially opens $1.3 billion Kupe Gas Project in Taranaki. The gas produced from the field, will meet about 15 percent of New Zealand's annual gas demand & 50 per cent of LPG demand, for the next 15 to 20 years. This must create greater demand for accommodation from guests visiting or working in the Oil or Gas industries within the Taranaki district.
